Vishwakarma Jayanti

‘Our attempt has been to create a bridge between the tradition and the future. For thousands of years, India has boasted of some of the most beautiful, durable and unique aesthetic artwork that stands as a sentinel of our past glory.

This great art has not been celebrated sufficiently in the last few decades. Both the art and the practitioner have survived the ravages of time and continue to practice their marvelous craft with the same dedication and superb quality till today. ‘ – Sashikala Ananth

The six paths to the Divine:
In sound through music
In the body through dance
In words through poetry
In space through architecture
In form through sculpture
In thought through mathematics
One touches the Divine

Ritambhara vAstu sangha invites you to join us online in “Celebrating the Vishwakarma” on 17th September’2024 from 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm IST.

The traditional architects, sculptors, and craftsmen who were responsible for building the great temples and monuments in India belong to a community called Vishwakarma, named after the God of crafts. Their work is seen in all parts of the country. They were designers of towns, temples, residences, villages, sculptural works in metal, stucco, earth-mortar and stone, jewellery, vessels for daily use, tools used for agriculture as well as war weapons. Their work has been deeply rooted in India since ancient times and is mentioned in the Vedas and Puranas.

The aesthetics of craft traditions goes as far back as the third millennium BC to the excavated sites of the Indus valley. The various traditional materials are well known to our ancestors for thousands of years. Crafts and craftsperson have been integrated into the cultural ethos of our country, since then. The community of craftsmen was called Vishwakarma, named after the God of crafts.
